To Deliver What I Bring

by Eric Chaet

I won’t entertain

by performing the role

I embodied before I began to perform —

but I’ll perform the role

under the conditions for which I invented it.

I won’t be a martyr

to prove

to those who take whatever they can

from whoever can’t prevent it

that I am who I am —

that I’m doing what isn’t acknowledged.

I find other ways to meet my needs

& to intervene —

to deliver what I’ve made, what I bring.
