Varmints

I’ve got fleas where I can’t mention
& they haven’t got humane intentions –
fleas from my waist down to my toes –
& they’re sending their astronauts up into my nose —
I’ve got fleas moving out into my world with me.

Mosquitoes dive-bombing where I’m standing by my road
waking me from sleeping in some forest I don’t know —
where I’m dreaming my dream of stop turning to go —
parasites adapt better than anyone I know —
I’ve got mosquitoes moving out into my world with me.

I’ve got rats in the grain I’ve got stored up –
rats in my government, production, distribution —
in finance, education, religion, revolution —
rats near & far, moving out into my world with me.

I’ve got tyrants who rule with iron fists
sending tanks into cities, napalming little kids —
hiding behind comforts they say that we all need —
I’ve got some who murder slowly, some who kill with speed —
I’ve got tyrants moving out into my world with me.

I’ve got people, resigned to being beat —
trying to recruit me, “Same old shit,” is how they greet —
vassals & their victims — dreaming while awake —
they want me to agree they’re too smart to make mistakes —
& shackled together, move out into my world with me.

I’ve got habits — they tie me to the past —
routine or crisis, what costs what, & approbation knacks —
resenting, blaming circumstances, trying to dodge facts
howling in a manner acclaimed by some mad pack —
got to shake these habits moving out into my world with me.

Investment

August 27, 2026

In whom or what are we investing our time & efforts & planning, our resources, our affection & love, our hopes?

Invest money in me, if you can, & I’ll invest money in you, if I can.

We need money to stay alive where so much of what we absolutely must have — shelter, safety, nourishment, time when nothing is demanded of us, communicating thru chaos & injustice & prejudice with potential allies — costs money.

But invest your attention in me — it will pay great dividends — & I will invest attention in you.

And affection & understanding of unusual degree.

Encourage my efforts, or discourage them, if you think they’re unwise. Don’t let me fail!

If you encourage my efforts, invest your efforts that complement them, & I’ll contribute my efforts that complement yours — even more, & more particularly, than I have been doing for the last 60 years.

You will gain more than the dollars of profit you might make by investing in what the billionaires & their employees are dangling.

It’s not a passive investment — but you’ll be passive soon enough, won’t you?

Is There Justice On Earth?

by Eric Chaet

Is there justice on Earth?
Does everyone have what they need
to become who they need to become?
I can’t die — my work’s not done.
